Memorial at Park Honors Diver Montcalm

Melody Montcalm honors her late husband at the newly dedicated Jim Montcalm Memorial Sunday, August 12, at American Legion Park in St. Ignace. She holds an award given to her by the Straits of Mackinac Underwater Preserve Committee recognizing her dedication to the promotion of diving in the Straits of Mackinac area. The commemorative plaque to Mrs. Montcalm's right was dedicated just after the Jim Montcalm Memorial Treasure Hunt. More than 80 divers, family members, and friends took part in the event this year. Mr. Montcalm, of St. Ignace, a longtime promoter of the sport and of local diving opportunities, was an organizer of the annual treasure hunt. He passed away while shipwreck diving September 4, 2006.
