Jerry Smith

Jerry Michael Smith of St. Ignace Township was a Vietnam War veteran who enlisted in the United States Army in 1968 and was honorably discharged in 1970. He worked locally at Wickes Lumber in Rudyard, and finally at Kewadin Casino in St. Ignace, until he became disabled in 2003.

Mr. Smith passed away suddenly at his home Sunday, August 5, 2007.

He was born November 26, 1949, in Flint, to Kenneth and Myrtle (nee Lucas) Smith.

While growing up, he vacationed in Cedarville often, visiting his aunts, Virginia Hadrian and Alice Springer Andrzejak.

He was graduated from Davison High School in Davison with the Class of 1967. Following his military service, Mr. Smith returned to Davison, where he worked for A.C. Spark Plug, Northern Advertising Mailing, and finally Singer Sewing Machines.

Mr. Smith eventually relocated to Cedarville to be closer to his parents who had retired there. He moved the family's log cabin to Mackinac Trail in St. Ignace Township in 1995, and resided there until his death.

Mr. Smith was a Past Master Councilor of the Order of DeMolay, a youth leadership organization that provides inspiration, civic awareness, personal responsibility, and mentorship to young men. He also enjoyed golfing, fishing, playing softball, throwing horseshoes, and watching all sports. He enjoyed photography and the company of his cat, Kitty.

Mr. Smith is survived by his mother, Myrtle Smith of Cedarville, several aunts, uncles, cousins, and special family friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth Smith, in 2005.

At Mr. Smith's request, no services will be held.

Reamer Galer Funeral Home of Pickford assisted the family with arrangements.
