Glancing back in our St. Ignace newspaper of 1970, I noticed Doc's Fish Fry on Friday evening in Moran cost $1.75. Wow, and that was all you could eat.
Michelle Thibault traveled from Chicago and spent a few days with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Thibault.
Craig Skutt, an employee of Star Line, doesn't call himself a hero, even though he is. Just as the boat was about to dock on Mackinac Island, Saturday, August 18, a man struggled for his life in the water. Mr. Skutt, being a skilled diver, made an attempt to save the man, and he was successful. A "hero sandwich" was named after Mr. Skutt at Village Inn on Mackinac Island.
Family came together from across the country during the second week of August to help Marv Winkelman get an early start on the celebration of his 90th birthday. Large quantities of whitefish and chocolate were consumed by family and friends from Washington, California, Florida, Maryland, Illinois, Wisconsin, and Michigan. Everyone enjoyed a good time.

Lia Goll, who recently relocated to Jacksonville, Florida, after being a St. Ignace resident for many years, spent two weeks this August renting Joe and Cheryl Matelski's cottage overlooking the Mackinac Bridge.
During her stay, she was accompanied by her grown children and their spouses, Libby and Michael Otis and Ted and Lindsay Goll. Lia and her family graciously received visitors at the cottage and enjoyed many meals in our local restaurants, gathering with Lia's good friends, who were happy and grateful to share this special time with them. Lia has returned to Jacksonville, where she lives near her daughter, Carol Lanfri.
