Arts Dockside at St. Ignace Original art and music have been a hallmark of Arts Dockside in St. Ignace for 30 years. This year, the event returns to St. Ignace Saturday, September 1, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday, September 2, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Arts Dockside will be staged around the St. Ignace waterfront, and spectators can access the show from the St. Ignace Marina. Approximately 85 artists and craft vendors plan to participate in the public show and sale. The event is free. Woodwork, paintings, jewelry, pottery, handmade clothing, photography, and stained glass will be among the variety of original works offered at Arts Dockside. Mackinac Animal Aid Association will again host a hot dog concession stand, and all proceeds from the group's food sales will be donated to the Mackinac County Animal Shelter. The Mackinac Animal Aid Association raises money to help offset the expense of caring for animals at the shelter, and this is one of its major fundraisers. They will be joined by other food vendors. Musician Kerry West is scheduling the event's entertainment package. He will perform, and Craig Day, the Marquette Folk Dancers, and juggler/ comedian Crazy Richard are also expected to join, as well as other entertainers. Owing to the new landscaping at the marina, festival coordinators note that most of the vendors will be north of the marina parking lot, toward Ace Hardware. An award to recognize the longtime commitment of a vendor will be presented to an artist who has participated in the show most of its 30 years. The award is named in memory of Diane Goudreau Fraser and Katherine Goudreau Orr, mother and daughter, who organized the show for many years, and both passed away in 2001. The award is also given in memory of Shelley Fitzpatrick, who passed away in 2003. |
