Reloaded Trojans Start Season With 42-16 Romp Over Posen
"I was pleased with our overall play," said Trojans Coach Randy Schaedig. "Everyone contributed, and that will pay huge dividends down the road." The Trojans scored three touchdowns in the first quarter as Jake Wellnitz answered from two yards out and C.J. Paquin added the twopoint conversion, for an 8-0 lead. Paquin and Jason Duncan combined on a 30-yard scoring strike and Duncan kicked the extra point for a 15-0 advantage before Cedarville increased the lead to 22-0 at the end of the first quarter as Paquin scampered to the endzone on an 18-yard run and Duncan kicked the extra point. Early in the second quarter, Wellnitz scored his second touchdown on an eight-yard run for a 28-0 lead, before Posen scored in the closing five minutes to cut the Cedarville margin to 28-8 at halftime. Paquin scored on a one-yard quarterback sneak at 8:04 of the third quarter and Duncan kicked his third point after for a 35-8 lead. Zach McFarland closed out the Trojans offense with a 30-yard run, and Duncan was perfect with his fourth extra point before the Vikings scored in the closing two minutes. Trojans Offense: McFarland, six carries for 84 yards, one reception for 14 yards; Wellnitz, 14 carries for 46 yards, Devon Wilson, six carries for 28 yards; Sheldon Tassier, four carries for 12 yards and one reception for nine yards, Paquin, eight carries for 28 yards and four of 10 passing for 66 yards; Duncan, one reception for 30 yards; and Kevin Thompson, one reception for 13 yards. Trojans Defense: Wellnitz, 13 tackles; Tassier, 12, McFarland 10 and one fumble recovery; Devon Wilson, eight and one sack; Clayton Meyers, seven; Adam Dingman, six and two fumble recoveries; Luke Murray, four and one fumble recovery; Kaleb Barbeaux, Josh Wilson, and Ryan Pollard, four, and Duncan, one interception. The Trojans will travel to Engadine to battle the Eagles in a Mid-Eastern Football League contest Friday, August 31. |
