Ellsworth Lancers Take Island Volleyball Tournament; Raiders Finish 2nd

DeTour finished second during the Mackinac Island Lakers Volleyball Invitational after registering a 9-7 overall record, and senior Morgan Fierek was named to the All-Tournament Team Saturday, August 25.

The Raiders swept (2-0) Grand Marais and St. Ignace junior varsity, split with Northern Michigan Christian Academy, and dropped both matches to Beaver Island to complete pool play with a 5-3 record.

DeTour went 2-1 against Hannahville and Beaver Island before falling to Ellsworth (0-2) in the championship match.

"Overall, I was pleased with our play, but we need to work on some areas," said Raiders Coach Sara Galarowic.

Raiders Stats: Jessica McCellan, 24 points, 12 aces, 14 kills, and 13 assists; Morgan Fierek, 14 points, six aces, 15 kills, and 12 blocks; Kiah Barbeaux, 30 points, 12 aces, and four kills; Jessica Bouwma, 21 points, 18 kills, and nine blocks; Laura Fussman, seven points, one ace, and one kill; Amanda Papke, three points and 19 assists; Sabrina Tomlinson, one point, one ace, and eight kills, and Korin Goetz, one point and six kills.

Dana Schieding St. Ignace

St. Ignace JV 3-10 at Lakers Tourney

St. Ignace junior varsity competing in the Mackinac Island Invitational finished the day with a 3-10 overall record, and sophomore Dana Schieding was named to the All-Tournament Team Saturday, August 25.

The Saints split with Grand Marais 15-14 and 11-15 and fell to Beaver Island 8-15 and 5-15, Northern Michigan Christian Academy 3-15 and 11-15, and DeTour 8-15 and 3-15 before moving on to bracket and won two of three from Mackinac Island 14-20, 20-19, and 15-14 and were defeated by Ellsworth 8-20 and 5-20 to close out the tourney.

Michi Mullings Mackinac Island

Lakers 3-8 During Own Tourney

Mackinac Island finished with a 3-8 overall record, and junior Michi Mullings was named to the All-Tournament Team during the Lakers Invitational Saturday, August 25.

The Lakers swept Maplewood Baptist 2-0, went 1-2 against St. Ignace junior varsity, and were 0-2 with Hannahville, Ellsworth, and Vanderbilt.
