Cedarville Finishes 5-7, St. Ignace 3-7 at Sault Volleyball Invite

Cedarville varsity volleyball team finished with a 5-7 overall record and junior Billie McLeod was named to the All-Tournament Team during the Sault Ste. Marie Invitational Saturday, August 25.

Petoskey won the tournament, defeating the host Blue Devils in the finals.

The Trojans defeated Newberry 21-15 and 21-2 and St. Ignace 21-12 and 21-15, split with Rudyard 23-22 and 15-21, and lost to Petoskey 17-19 and 19-21, and Sault Ste. Marie 19-21 and 18-21.

"I was pleased with our effort all day," said Trojans Coach Kathy Trevarrow. "We were in every match and for the first competition, we played well."

Trojans Stats: Billie McLeod, 27 kills, four aces, and 11 block kills; Caitlin Wright, 11 kills, five aces, and one block kill; Carissa Sudol, 40 assists and five aces; McKenzie Sudol, eight kills and 12 aces; Ashley Sweeney, seven kills and four aces; and Hope Deeren, six kills, five aces, and two block kills.

Cedarville lost the services of Megan Hill after she suffered an ankle injury in the third match of the day. She is expected to miss seven to 10 days.

Saints 3-7 at Sault Tourney

St. Ignace varsity volleyball team opened the season with a 3- 7 overall record during the Sault Ste. Marie Invitational Saturday, August 25.

The Saints split with Petoskey 8-21 and 21-15, Newberry 21-8 and 17-21, and Rudyard 16-21 and 21-10, and dropped matches to Cedarville 12-21 and 15-21, and the host Blue Devils 9-21 and 6-21.

"We did some good things, but we still need more work," said Saints Coach Gracia May- Marshall.

Saints Stats: Ashley Neelis, 27 points, 14 aces, 42 digs, six kills, two blocks, one assist; Marcie Rickley, 18 points, eight aces, 61 assists, 15 digs, 10 kills, and two blocks; Jessica Massaway, 12 points and 24 digs; Stacee Schnicke, five points, 34 digs, six kills, and two blocks; Caysey Brown, five points, 32 assists, seven digs, and three kills; Alyssa Pechta, six points, one ace, eight digs, eight kills, eight assists, and two blocks; Jodie Langstaff, three points and six digs; Anna Krause, two points and 21 digs; and Molly Therrian, one point and eight digs.
