Missing Plane Search Suspended The search for an airplane missing in the Straits of Mackinac area was suspended Saturday, September 1, to allow searchers to reassess their progress, said Lieutenant David Hopper of the Michigan State Police post in St. Ignace Monday, September 3. Debris suspected to be from the missing plane was found washed ashore east of Cheboygan Monday, August 27. The small, singleengine plane with two people on board left Mackinac Island Airport Friday, August 24. The pilot is Karen Dodds, 51, and the passenger is Brooke Stauffer, 55, both of Washington, D.C. Members of the U.S. Civil Air Patrol's Michigan Wing and ground teams began searching for the plane August 31. Michigan State Police dive teams have been searching the area. Agencies involved in the search include Michigan State Police Posts in St. Ignace and Cheboygan, sheriff departments in both Mackinac and Cheboygan counties, and the U.S. Coast Guard. |
