Group Hangs New Boat Banners at Les Cheneaux

Margie Denoyer of Cedarville and the Les Cheneaux Advisory Committee (left) assisted with the banner hanging in Cedarville and Hessel. Cedarville artist Norine Rudd (right) designed the banners.
Cedarville artist Norine Rudd designed the 12 new wooden boat banners that now grace poles in Cedarville and Hessel. The navy blue banners were hung August 2, in time for the annual Les Cheneaux Antique Wooden Boat Show and Festival of Arts, which partly inspired the banners. Les Cheneaux Advisory Committee commissioned and purchased the banners, then hung them.

A departure from her locally famous watercolor paintings, Mrs. Rudd's original work was translated into a graphic art design and printed on the banners.

McMaken Carpentry of Cedarville donated the use of a lift truck and employee John Malkowski to operate it. Chuck and Margie Denoyer and Lon Kologe placed the banners. Mrs. Rudd visited the crew while they were hanging the banners on Hodeck Street in Cedarville, and saw the final result of her design.

The banners join a series of patriotic banners that were hung earlier this summer in July. Both sets were paid for with private donations to the Les Cheneaux Advisory Committee and a grant from the Les Cheneaux Community Foundation.
