Mitchell Named Airlines Captain

Brett Mitchell, a 1983 graduate of LaSalle High School, was recently promoted to captain by American Eagle Airlines. Mr. Mitchell flies the Embraer Brasilia jet out of O'Hare International Airport in Chicago.
Immediately out of high school, he joined the Army and, as a member of the 1st Special Forces Group, made approximately 50 parachute jumps, piquing his interest in flying. After his enlistment, he enrolled at Embray- Riddle Aeronautical University, earning a Bachelor of Science in Aeronautical Science.
To further his career, he became a flight instructor and later flew passengers and freight for a small company in Flint.
Mr. Mitchell lives in Flushing with his wife, Jill, a middle school English teacher in the Flushing School District. The couple have three children, Joshua, 6, Molly, 5, and Benjamin, 2.
He is the son of Ron and Carolyn Mitchell of St. Ignace Township.
