Results of the Chippewa County Fair

The 2007 Chippewa County Fair ended Monday, September 3. Results of the various judging events that were available at press time Tuesday, September 4, are listed here.

This year's Miss Chippewa County Fair is Ashley Traynor, 19, of Kinross. First Runner-up is Pickford's Alicia Priehs, 17. Second Runner-up is Kassandra Rader, 17, of Pickford. Third Runner-up is Melanie Mikolowski, 16, of Sault Ste. Marie. The girls were introduced to the crowd at the grandstand Tuesday night, August 28, and presided over fair events, passing out awards and trophies at the shows.

Pocket Pets

Pocket pets were judged Monday, August 27.

Grand Champion - Molly Anderson, Sault Ste. Marie. Reserve Champion - Samantha Shiemke, St. Ignace Township.

Antique equipment enthusiast Cliff Ulferts of Atwater, Minnesota, hauled his 1890 South Pen Oil Engine from his home to Michigan's Chippewa County Fair. Each one of the flywheels on the device weighs 2,000 pounds, he said, and the machine was once used to run derricks that extracted oil from the Pennsylvania oil fields, he said. Mr. Ulferts is a regular at the local fair, and is now headed with his machine to the Threshing Show in Atwater.

Jason Fegan, part of the Fegan Family tractor pullers of the Brimley and Dafter areas, operated the Green Reaper, an Oliver 88 tractor during Thursday, August 30 Antique and Classic Tractor Pull. He was the first in his family to participate in tractor pulling, said his mother, Jamie, who also pulls, along with five other pullers, including Merlin Fegan, Kenny and Tom Fegan, 12-year-old Logan Fegan, and 8-year-old Mickayla Fegan. Jamie Fegan said her husband, Larry, helps out as her mechanic.
