John 'Fred' Moore

John "Fred" Moore of Detroit was a former St. Ignace resident who worked as a master plumber for McLeod Plumbing and Belonga Plumbing in St. Ignace before moving downstate. He found work in Detroit, and eventually retired from a position in plumbing and building maintenance at Grace Hospital in Detroit.

Mr. Moore died at his Detroit home at age 89 Monday, September 3, 2007.

He was born in St. Ignace January 24, 1918, to Robert John and Emma (nee LaJoice) Moore.

He lived in St. Ignace until 1968, and was a former member of the St. Ignace Fire Department, life member of the St. Ignace American Legion, and life member of Moose Lodge 999 of St. Ignace. He and his wife, Marion, were also members of St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church in St. Ignace.

Mr. Moore married to Marion Halverson at St. Ignatius Church December 31, 1946, and she preceded him in death in 1979. He also was preceded in death by a son, Joe, in 1995.

Mr. Moore is survived by three sons and their families, Paul Moore of Detroit, Robert Moore of Palm Harbor, Florida, and James and Theresa Moore of Farmington Hills; a daughter and her family, Mary Ann and Stephen Dziadzio of Redford; seven grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.

Afuneral mass was celebrated in Highland Park Saturday, September 8.

Local services included visitation Monday, September 10, at Dodson Funeral Home in St. Ignace, with parish prayers that evening. Deacon Don Olmstead officiated.

Burial was Tuesday, September 11, at Gros Cap Cemetery in Moran Township. Deacon Don Olmstead officiated and the St. Ignace America Legion participated in the services. The St. Ignace Fire Department served as Honor Guard during services.
