The Rudyard Bulldogs football team fell to 2-1 overall and 0-1 in the Straits Area Conference after a 28-8 setback at the hands of undefeated Sault Ste. Marie Blue Devils during a league game Friday, September 7.

"We played aggressively, but the little things hurt us," said Bulldogs Head Coach Pat Maloney. "We need to finish strong and wrap up on our tackles."

The Blue Devils scored two touchdowns in the first quarter, maintained a 14-0 halftime lead, and added two scores for a 28-0 lead after the third quarter.

The Bulldogs touchdown came on a Josh McCollum twoyard scoring pass to Pete Lawlor.

The senior quarterback connected to Arik Hesselink for the two-point conversion to cut the Sault lead to 28-8.

The Bulldogs were without senior captain Kasey Gregg, who was out with a sprained ankle, suffered during a physical education class.

"That hurt us from a physical standpoint and leadership roles," said Coach Maloney.

Bulldogs offense: Josh McCollum, seven of 17 passing for 167 yards; Craig Wallis, four receptions for 129 yards, four rushing attempts for 29 yards; Pete Lawlor, 10 attempts for 74 yards; James Perry, one reception for 22 yards, four attempts for 18 yards, Arik Hesselink, one reception for three yards.

Bulldogs defense: Craig Wallis, 17 tackles; C.J. Knutsen, 11 tackles; Jacob McMillian, 10 tackles; Todd Anderson, nine tackles; Pete Lawlor, seven tackles; Aaron Diepenhorst and Jeff Briggs, six tackles.

Rudyard will entertain the Newberry Indians (0-3) in a SAC contest Friday, September 14.
