School May Need Coach Who Can Handle Bigger Team
To the Editor:

I am absolutely appalled with the St. Ignace board of education's decision to take no action on the recent cuts of five athletes from the Saints volleyball program. To enforce their will and neglect these players from participating in the sport they love, especially the seniors, is totally asinine.

For those of you who lived here long enough: Can you fathom Coach Johnson cutting Ed Lester for not performing well? Coach Gallagher cutting Johnny Brown because he missed some plays? Or Louie Grondin getting cut because he couldn't throw a strike? I think not! There would be one heck of an uproar, my friends, as there should be over these cuts.

Mrs. May-Marshall told The St. Ignace News a 12-member team is what she can coach effectively. Well, maybe LaSalle should hire a coach who can handle a bigger team, so more students can participate. Mr. Springsteen said "cutting players was a normal process and part of tryouts." Excuse me, but cutting proven players (especially seniors) is not normal. Maybe in college or the pro's, but not high school.

I am not a parent or related to these players, just a Saints fan.
