New Officers Include President, Two Trustees, Clerk and Treasurer Elected September 11

With 325 voters submitting ballots in the Mackinaw City election Tuesday, September 11, a new village president and two new trustees will join the seven-member village council. Residents also elected a new clerk and retained their treasurer.

Ronald Wallin unseated incumbent village president Robert Heilman by a vote of 176 to 137. The term is two years.

Five candidates ran for three, four-year trustee seats. The three who received the most votes earned council positions.

Incumbent Jeff Hingston retained his seat, receiving 254 votes. Belinda Mollen gained a seat, with 210 votes, and Matt Yoder gained a seat, with 198 votes.

Dave Morse received 148 votes and did not receive a seat, nor did write-in candidate Chris Brown, who received 30 votes.

Former trustees Sandra Planisek and Dave Edwards did not seek reelection.

For the two-year village clerk position, Elizabeth Clemens defeated Janet Terrian- LaLonde, 174 to 140. Ms. Clemens will take over from Sandy Krueger, who retired.

For the two-year treasurer position, incumbent Patricia Peppler ran unopposed and received 274 votes.

The council acts as the legislative body of the village and makes decisions affecting the operation and aesthetics of Mackinaw City. The clerk and treasurer do not vote on matters that come before the council.
