Man Arrested for Slashing Tires During Truck Show

A 19-year-old St. Ignace man was arrested on charges of slashing tires on nine cars Saturday evening, September 15, at the parking lot of Little Bear East Arena and Community Center, where several vehicles were parked for the annual Truck Show.

Officers were called to the parking lot after an Escanaba man called 9-1-1 reporting he saw a person slashing a tire on his car on Prospect Street. The man fled when approached, the caller reported.

Witnesses who saw the suspect running led police to a house, where the man was arrested.

None of the vehicles involved in the case were registered in the Truck Show.

The man is scheduled to be arraigned at the 92nd District Court Tuesday, October 9.

In an incident that police say may be related, a Gaylord woman reported damage to her vehicle Tuesday, September 18, after discovering her spare tire had been tampered with in St. Ignace. She was told by a mechanic that it appeared someone had tried to pry it off, since the hole for the tire jack was stripped and a wire was cut.

Police believe this may have been done by one of the people whose tires were slashed. The case remains open.
