Melbourne Williams celebrated his 90th birthday Sunday, September 9, 2007, with approximately 150 relatives, friends, neighbors, and former co-workers at his home in Cedarville.
The gathering featured bluegrass and country music, food, and reminiscing.
Mr. Williams retired in 1980 from the limestone quarry in Cedarville. He grew up at Rockview in the Pickford area. Mr. Williams recalls his family did not have a car in his early years, as many area families didn't, and he was 24 years old before he made his first trip to Sault Ste. Marie. He made the trip to board a train to Detroit to take a physical examination for enlistment in the Armed Forces, he said.
Mr. Williams has lived in Cedarville for more than 60 years.
He enjoys feeding the birds, watching "The Price Is Right" on television, visiting with friends, listening to country music, and playing a dice game with family and friends.
