No injuries resulted from roof fires at Griffin Beverage Company on Lemotte Street in St. Ignace Wednesday, October 3, and Thursday, October 4.
A contractor working on the roof Wednesday peeled back a piece of metal fascia, which was caught by wind and blown against the building's primary power line, causing the fire.
"It energized the whole end of the building," said St. Ignace Fire Chief John "Bucky" Robinson.
Wood beneath the metal fascia smoldered and caught fire. Smoke was noticed quickly by the contractor and Griffin employees, and the fire department extinguished the blaze at about 3:30 p.m.
"It could have been worse," Chief Robinson said.
The department was called back to the facility at 5:30 a.m. Thursday. The fire had rekindled further down the length of the building, Chief Robinson said. In that circumstance, it is difficult to tell where a fire could rekindle, he said. It was quickly extinguished by firefighters.
Very little damage was done to the building in the two incidents, Mr. Robinson reported.
