Tree Removal, Water Safety Are Topics for Hudson Twp. Board Removal of diseased trees at Garnet Park, the completion of this year's paving project on H-40, and a favorable report about well water at Hudson Township Hall are topics currently occupying the Hudson Township Board of Trustees, township supervisor Al Garavaglia told The St. Ignace News October 11. The board met Wednesday, October 4. About 25 trees with beech disease are to be removed from the park, which the township leases from the Department of Natural Resources (DNR), and some have already been taken down. The work is being done by township trustee Dave Livermore. "It's not a pressing issue at this point, because the problem trees that were near the campsites have already been removed," Mr. Garavaglia said. The tree removal was approved by the DNR, and work is ongoing. The board is satisfied with repaving and sub-structure work done on a section of H- 40/Hiawatha Trail in the township by the county road commission, Mr. Garavaglia reported, and this year's portion is finished. Six miles of H-40 remains to be repaved. The road had not been resurfaced in 45 years, he said. "Next, we'll shift our priorities to Borgstrom Road," he said, after all of H-40 is completed in Hudson Township. Well water at the township hall has been chlorinated to remove bacteria, and subsequent testing has shown the water is safe, the board learned. The fire department has purchased six new radios to replace outdated equipment. The township board, through the assistance of Fire Chief Denny Vowell and Assistant Chief Will Cobe, is seeking grant funding to pay for the radios and other wildfire support equipment it would like to buy. The board of trustees meets the first Thursday of every month at 7 p.m. at the Hudson Township Hall. |
