Chippewa County Health Department To Host Flu Shot Clinic October 23

A flu vaccination clinic will be offered Tuesday, October 23, from noon to 6 p.m. at five locations throughout Chippewa County, including a drive-through clinic open to all adults.

Adults can be vaccinated at the Chi Mukwa (Big Bear) Arena in Sault Ste. Marie, the Northern Urgent Care Clinic in Kinross, DeTour Village Township Hall, and Bay Mills Resort Horizons Center, as well as the drive-through clinic at the Sault Ste. Marie City Airport.

Children ages six through age 17 can be vaccinated at Chi Mukwa Arena only.

Flu shots are $15 for adults and $7 for children, if not covered by insurance. Medicare is accepted and clients are reminded to bring their Medicare cards. Participants are reminded to bring proof of insurance, employment or tribal membership, and to wear short sleeved shirts. Flu shots are free to Sault Tribe members.

A flu shot is recommended for people who are at high risk of experiencing complications from the flu. Flu shots are recommended for children aged six to 59 months, pregnant women, those older than 50, and people of any age with certain chronic medical conditions. In addition, people who live with or care for persons at high risk should be vaccinated. Many area agencies cooperate to sponsor this clinic, including the Chippewa County Health Department, Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians, War Memorial Hospital, Bay Mills Indian Community, Lake Superior State University, Chippewa County Office of Emergency Services, Northern Urgent Care Clinic, United States Coast Guard, and American Red Cross.

For more information about the flu vaccine or the vaccination clinic, contact the Chippewa County Health Department Flu Hotline at (906) 253-3141. For more information on the clinic at Bay Mills, call (906) 248-5527.

Last year more than 3,000 people were vaccinated in the annual clinic.
