Flu, Pneumonia Shots Now Offered

Flu shot clinics will be offered by Luce Mackinac Alger Schoolcraft (LMAS) District Health Department in St. Ignace and Newberry. Pneumonia vaccine will also be offered.

The St. Ignace clinic will be Tuesday, October 23, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Mackinac County LMAS office at 749 Hombach Street.

The Newberry Clinic will be Thursday, November 1, from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Luce County LMAS office at 14150 Hamilton Lake Road.

Patients with Medicare and Medicaid coverage are asked to bring their insurance cards with them. All others will be asked to pay $20 per flu shot and $35 per pneumonia shot. Those younger than 18 who do not have insurance covering the vaccine may be eligible to receive the vaccine for $10.

Appointments are not necessary.

The flu vaccine is strongly recommended for people age 50 and older, those with chronic medical problems, children age six months to five years, pregnant women, and health care workers. Anyone who wishes to reduce the likelihood of becoming ill with influenza may receive the vaccine.
