William Vance

William Howard Vance of Farwell was 86 when he died Wednesday, October 3, 2007, at the Aleda Lutz Veterans Administration Medical Center in Saginaw. Mr. Vance and his family spent time at their farm in the St. Ignace area.

Mr. Vance was born in Traverse City April 2, 1921, to William Allan and Jenny (nee Cadmus) Vance. He served in World War II in the 82nd Airborne Division. Mr. Vance worked as a union carpenter, and loved to hunt and fish. He also coached Little League baseball when he lived in Livonia.

Mr. Vance is survived by his wife, Thelma (nee McLaughlin), whom he married June 24, 1983, five children and their families, William and Sharon Vance II of Oxford, David and Donna Vance of Clare, Stanley and Deborah Simmons of Livonia, Nadine Walker of Livonia, and Molly and Joseph Szomolyai of New Boston, 11 grandchildren, and five greatgrandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Sue, May 24, 1982.

Services were at 1 p.m. Saturday, October 6, at Campbell- Stocking Family Funeral Home in Farwell. Elder Dan Ridenour officiated.

Burial was at 11 a.m. Monday, October 15, at the Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly.
