City Council Candidates To Answer Questions Thursday A public question-and-answer session with the six candidates running for seats on the St. Ignace City Council in the November 6 election will be held Thursday, October 25, at 7 p.m. at the St. Ignace Public Library. Three of the candidates will win four-year seats on the council. Candidates are Dean Baker, Steve DuFresne, Paul Fullerton, Willie LaLonde, Mary Elizabeth Nichols, and Merv Wyse. The free session asks voters to pose questions to candidates about issues facing the city and community. The moderator for the session will be Michelle Walk, director of the Michigan State University Extension office in St. Ignace. The session will not be a debate, rather candidates will be given one minute to respond to a question. Questions submitted will be screened to ensure they are focused on city or community issues, and not personal issues. Each candidate will also be given three minutes to make a closing statement. Registered voters are welcome to submit questions in advance. Call either The St. Ignace News at 643-9150 or Michelle Walk at the MSUE office at 643-7307. Questions can also be submitted by e-mail to news@stignacenews. com or walkmich@msu.edu. Question cards will also be available at the session. The session is coordinated by The St. Ignace News and MSU Extension. Voters will cast ballots from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, November 6, at Little Bear East Arena and Community Center, 275 Marquette Street. A new state regulation requires voters to show photograph identification at the polls. |
