DeTour Area
By Barbara Buschbacher 297-8075 bbann@sault.com

It appears, on this blustery Monday, November 5, that winter is trying to work its way into our weather pattern. Winter enthusiasts are cheering for an early snow prediction, while others are moaning over the fact they may have to look for last year's snow shovels.

November 15 is the opening day of the firearm deer season. Dave and Cathy Kohring of North Country Sports in DeTour will host their annual "Big Buck Contest."

All interested hunters may register at North Country Sports, with an entry fee of $5. To be eligible for the contest, sign up before November 15. Good luck, hunters.

The women of Redeemer Lutheran Church will hold their annual bake sale at Central Savings Bank Wednesday, November 14, starting at 8:30 a.m. until all goods are sold.

The DeTour Seniors Club monthly potluck dinner will be Thursday, November 8, at the DeTour Village Hall. All adults may attend this fun-filled evening.

The Friends of the Library have invited Sean Fountain, formerly of DeTour, to be the guest speaker at the library Saturday, November 10, from 11 a.m. to noon.

Mr. Fountain will be promoting his first book, "Only the Bear," a story of a stuffed bear. Illustrations in the book are designed by Janelle Dudeck, who resides in DeTour with her husband and two sons.

Food for thought: Many kinds of fruit are grown on the tree of life, but none so sweet as friendship.
