Engadine Hello, everyone. The weather is much colder, and the smell of wood fires is in the air. If you haven't had your chimney cleaned and checked yet this year, it's time to do so. With the time change last weekend, did you change your batteries in your smoke and fire detectors? The Tahquamenon Area Friends of the Library are having the fourth annual huge used book sale Thursday, November 8, Friday, November 9, and Saturday, November 10, at the Newberry Library. Fiction and non-fiction adult and children's books, videos, DVDs, and CDs will be available. Donations will be accepted until Wednesday, November 7. For more information, call (906) 293-5214. The Diabetic Support Group will meet Thursday, November 8, from noon to 2 p.m. in the Huron Conference room at Helen Newberry Joy Hospital. Lunch will be provided. The Diabetic Support Group meets each month, and the meetings are open to anyone with diabetes, or their friends and family. There will be bingo at the Newton Township Hall in Gould City Thursday, November 8, and Thursday, November 15. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., with bingo starting at 7 p.m. Players must be at least 18 years old. The Newberry Elks Club will have men's stag night Thursday, November 8, and Thursday, November 15. There will be family reading night at the Engadine Library Thursday, November 8, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. There will be story reading, a book making project, "Big Chickens" performance, prizes, and treats. This event is sponsored by Engadine Consolidated Schools Reading First and the Friends of the Engadine Library with help from the Core Team. The Newberry Eagles Club will have fish fries Friday, November 9, and Friday, November 16, from 4:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. and pizza night Tuesday, November 13, from 4:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Club on M-28 in Newberry. The Newberry Elks Club will have a Texas Hold-em Tournament Saturday, November 10, at 4 p.m. Call the Elks Club in Newberry for more information. The Curtis Garden Club will meet Monday, November 12, from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the home of Joann and Leon Lesatz at N7351 County Road H-33 in Curtis. There will be holiday wreath making. For more information, contact Lynn Kihm at (906) 586-6254. There will be a Hunter's Dinner Thursday, November 15, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Engadine VFW Hall. There also will be a bake sale. Cost is $8 for adults, $3 for children age 5 to 12, and free for children younger than age 5. The dinner is sponsored by VFW Auxiliary 8372 of Engadine. There will be an all-you-can-eat Hunter's Dinner Friday, November 16, from 4:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Garfield Township Hall in Engadine. Cost is $8 for adults and $3 for children ages 5 to 12. The dinner is sponsored by the Engadine United Methodist Church. The 16th Annual "Christmas in Curtis" bazaar will be Saturday, November 24, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Portage Township Hall and the Curtis Elementary School. There will be arts, crafts, gifts, decorations, bake sale, pictures with Santa at the school, large Christmas basket raffle, lunch at the hall, and a Ladies Aid quilt raffle and drawing.
