Rescue Team Dispatched to Bridge

Responding to a report that a person may have jumped from the midspan of the Mackinac Bridge Friday, November 2, the U.S. Coast Guard dispatched its rescue helicopter to search under the bridge about 8:30 p.m., but no body was found. The search was suspended at 11:55 that night.

A video camera on the bridge captured an image of a person scaling the bridge's large cable just over the railing before disappearing from sight, according to police. An abandoned vehicle was parked on the northbound lane of the bridge.

Mackinaw City police questioned a suspicious female walking southbound on I-75 near the water park in Mackinaw City to see if she was somehow related to the case, but it was determined she was not.

Neither the Mackinac Bridge Authority nor the Michigan State Police Post in St. Ignace would release any information on the case.
