LSSU Hosts St. Mary's Habitat Meeting

Lake Superior State University will host a meeting Tuesday, November 13, about the status of fish and wildlife populations and habitat in the St. Marys River. The meeting, open to the public, will be at 7 p.m. in the university's Cisler Center in Sault Ste. Marie.

The meeting is the first in a series of three planned to get input from local residents about improving fish and wildlife habitat and populations.

The public is encouraged to attend, including people who visit the river to view wildlife, or hunt and fish, those who operate tourism businesses, or anyone who has a concern with water quality and its effect on habitat. Anyone who cannot attend the meeting but would like to provide written comments for the project may contact the university staff listed below.

The project is a joint effort of the university's Biology Department and the Binational Public Advisory Council (BPAC) for the St. Marys River Area of Concern and funded by the Great Lakes Commission. For more information, contact Professor Greg Zimmerman of the Biology Department at (906) 635-2470, or contact project assistant Andrew Johnson, at (906) 379-1313.
