Trojans Return to District Volleyball Championship

Following the Cedarville Trojans' volleyball loss in the district tournament last year after 18 consecutive championships, this season, Coach Kathy Trevarrow, in her eighth year, has the Trojans back in top form as they captured the district crown at Brimley Saturday, November 3.
The Trojans, 9-2 on the day, opened play against Mackinac Island, sweeping the Lakers (25-16, 25-19, and 25-19), defeating Eastern Upper Peninsula Conference rival Pickford (25-17, 15-25, 25-19, and 25-23) in the semifinals, and, in the championship match, downing the host Brimley Bays (25-19, 16-25, 25-19, and 25-16).
"We have returned to team volleyball and never quit when we got down," said Coach Trevarrow. "This was our best overall effort this year, and this is the way this group of girls can play. I am proud of their effort all season, especially in the districts."
Trojans stats: Caitlin Wright, 22 kills, five aces, five block kills; Carissa Sudol, 39 assists, four aces; Jessie Duncan, 35 assists, four aces; Billie McLeod, 29 kills, three block kills; Hope Deeren, 19 kills, three block kills; Kacie Simpson, 10 kills, three block kills; Megan Hill, eight kills, five aces; Ashley Sweeney, four aces, three kills; MacKenzie Sudol, four aces; Jenna Arnold, one kill, one block kill; Rachel Hansen, one ace.
Lakers stats: Karlena Mosley, 12 points, one ace, 18 sets, 23 good passes, six assists; Michi Mullings, nine points, one ace, eight good passes, four kills, two blocks; Morgan Brodeur-Bunker, six points, one ace, 23 sets, six good passes, four tips, two assists; Shay Mosley, six points, three aces, 23 good passes, four kills; Danielle Wightman, four points, two aces, seven good passes, two kills; Marie Bunker, three points, seven good passes, one block; Maggie Chambers, one point, one ace, five kills, one block; Arial Leeper, two good passes.
Cedarville will battle the Onaway district winner in the first round of regional play at 10 a.m. at Pellston Saturday, November 10. The host Hornets will take on the Mio district champion in the second semifinal match before the championship game.
The Class D quarterfinals will be held at 7 p.m. at the St. Ignace Middle School Tuesday, November 13.
