Brevort
By Lois Movalson 292-5581

Monday, November 12, we took a moment to remember the brave soldiers who fought to keep our country safe.

Sunday evening, November 11, Pastor Tari Stage-Harvey, Sharon Smith, Pega Kennedy, and myself drove to Newberry for the annual Thrivent dinner and meeting. The meeting was informative, and we got to meet some new people and get reacquainted with others. The way home was probably more exciting, as we talked much and didn't really watch what road we took to get back to US-2. As we traveled down a "road" heading south, I remarked I remembered a rough patch coming over to Newberry, but didn't think it was this lengthy or had so many water-filled potholes. I reassured Pastor Tari that "as long as we head south, we're bound to hit US-2 at some point." There are no houses, only woods, as we traveled on, but we were having fun talking, which is probably the reason we got on this road in the first place. I was thankful Pastor Tari had filled the car with gas before we left Newberry. We finally got to US-2 and on to Brevort, and Pastor Tari and Elijah drove on home to St. Ignace. It was a great evening.

Sharon and Joe Chalmers saw a movie Sunday.

Get well wishes for Jim Dyer, as he is undergoing laboratory tests to determine the cause of pain and weakness.

Jenna Jewel of Gladwin is spending the week with her grandmother, Dot Glashaw, of Epoufette Bay. Dot attended the Red Hat meeting Saturday, November 10, in St. Ignace.

Kathy and Bob Reid report more than 30 doves feeding in their backyard. Goldfinches, chickadees, evening grosbeaks, pine grosbeaks, a black squirrel, and a gray squirrel rounded out the group.

The Keg and Anvil shop on Schoolhouse Road is closed temporarily.

Joyce Gustafson, along with Lara, Morgan, and Kristi Gustafson, spent Sunday in Sault Ste. Marie shopping and dining.

Megan Gustafson was home from Michigan State University visiting her parents, Dick and Patsy Gustafson.

Jake Weiss was home from Alma College last weekend visiting his parents, Jake and Mary Weiss of Gorman Road.

Plans are being made for the annual progressive dinner that will be held in various homes in Brevort and Trinity Lutheran Church Saturday, December 15.

Lee Foster is home visiting for the month of November, as it's fall hiatus from his work at the Gunflint Lodge in Minnesota.

Thora Shepard, Sally Valentine, Anita Dumas, and her sister, Edna Mae, from Orlando, Florida, made the rounds of craft fairs in Newberry and Brimley Saturday. While in Brimley they ran into former Brevort residents Carol Mitchell and her daughter, Heather.

Jack and Thora Shepard were shoppers in Sault Ste. Marie Friday.

Bruce Movalson was a Tuesday afternoon caller at our home while on his way to a meeting in Big Rapids. As always, we received two boxes of peanut brittle from Saykleys. One box disappeared rather quickly, almost before Bruce got to the bridge.

Happy birthday to Linda Dotts and Jim Dyer November 15, Jim Rogers November 19, Cheryl Matelski November 20, and Sharkey Movalson November 21.
