Good luck to all of the hunters who will be in the woods Thursday, November 15, the opening day of the firearm deer season. Snow, which is good for tracking, is not in the forecast. We wish you all the best and hope you "bag the big one."

The Thanksgiving holiday is only a week away. Many of us are planning, or have already planned, on how we will celebrate that special day. May you all have a great holiday with your families and friends.

A benefit spaghetti dinner for Anthony Bosley will be held at the Raber Township Hall Saturday, November 24, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. The price for an adult is $6, for children $3. Children 10 years and younger are admitted free. There will be door prizes also. Donations are accepted; everyone is welcome.

News from the E.U.P. Fine Arts Council that plans for the fourth annual Village Christmas December 1 are well underway. Maps for the village-wide event will be available at participating locations. The time for this event will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Council members reported there will be 16 locations and more than 50 vendors participating. The theme for "AVillage Christmas" - a 19th century fishing village - will be a permanent part of the event. Businesses, vendors, and visitors are encouraged to dress in 19th century clothing and decorate in this time period, which adds to the festivity.

The Chamber of Commerce is offering to sponsor the horse and wagon trolley to take participants around the village to the participating businesses.

The E.U.P. Fine Arts Council will sponsor "The Best Christmas Pageant Every," directed by Dave Rhinard. This play is a heartwarming story of effort and understanding bringing home the Christmas message in a comic new way. It is a large play with 25 roles, almost all of which were filled with children and adults from DeTour Village. In addition, there will be "angel chorus" to top the cast at more than 30. Performance dates will be December 14, 15, and 16.

Community Choir concerts and school concerts have been rehearsing for their performances within the first weeks of December. Dates and times of all performances will be addressed soon in this column.

The DeTour Reef Light Preservation Society (DRLPS) has been planning activities for the year 2008. At a recent meeting, Mary Rogers was presented a 10 Year Service Award as Membership Chairperson. Mary participated in the growth of DRLPS, from a small group of local citizens to a membership of more than 350 across the United States.

Congratulations to Sawyer Golovich, 11, who won first prize in a photo contest sponsored by the Lake Charlevoix Association. Sawyer's winning photo was taken last spring of Lake Charlevoix, entitled "Amber Skies." Proud parents are Marlene and Dennis Golovich of Charlevoix, formerly of DeTour Village. Equally proud is Ruthann Hudak of DeTour Village. Perhaps we have another Ansel Adams in our midst.

Village residents were saddened upon learning of the passing of Audrey Behrens Sunday, November 11. Mrs. Behrens is survived by her husband, Ron, her children, grandchildren, and many family members. She will be missed by all of her friends in the area.

A thought: Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by all the moments that take our breath away.
