A salute to all area veterans who so unselfishly gave of themselves so that we can continue to enjoy the freedoms our country offers. Your sacrifices are truly appreciated.

Condolences to Mary and Bud Hart on the passing of Mary's Aunt Vi, who was brought north for her final resting place.

The Engadine Eagle girls volleyball team will enter regional play at Ewen-Trout Creek following last weekend's play. We hope they come away winners.

Wayne Riley, who has a home away from home up around the bend at the far end of Rexton, is here from Wisconsin for hunting season.

Slipping away for a few days before the snow falls were Shoe and Darlene Shoemaker, along with their daughter and son-in-law, Krystal and Louie Oberle. They traveled to the home of their son and brother, Mike Shoemaker and family, who have just moved to a new house outside of Nashville, Tennessee.

Evelyn and Dale Burgess enjoyed watching their granddaughter, Elisha Derusha, play for the University of Wisconsin - Green Bay in a home basketball game. Following the final buzzer, they jumped into the car for a trip to Brimley to join in the celebration of great-grandson Vaughn's first birthday.

A reminder for folks who are participating in the Samaritans purse outreach program, the "shoebox ministry," there are still plenty of shoeboxes to be filled in time to be sent to youngsters all over the world. Besides the coloring books, crayons, pencils, and toys that can be used, the need is still great for such items as soap, toothbrushes, and toothpaste, along with hard candy.

A surprise visit from her greatgranddaughters, Amber and Tiffany, put a smile on the face of Rosie Prater last week.

Anniversary wishes to Bob and Sandy Quinn November 9.

Good luck to all hunters as the firearm deer season is set to begin Thursday, November 15, and Thanksgiving is following close on the heels of those looking for the high-jumping white tails.
