More Than 200 Enjoy Moran's Veterans Memorial Fireworks A fireworks display for Veterans Day was enjoyed by many people on Dukes Road in Moran Saturday evening, November 10. "It was an excellent turnout," said Linda Peters, whose husband, Larry, helped coordinate the event. "There were people lined up along Dukes Road and the highway." "There must have been more than a couple hundred people there," said Mr. Peters. The event was held in memory of local veterans Alford "Pete" Peters and George Litzner. Mr. Peters, who served in the Army, died November 2, 2005, at age 79. Mr. Litzner, who served in the Coast Guard, died March 3, 2006, at age 81. It was the second consecutive year the event was held in Moran. Loni Brown of St. Ignace was the winner of a 50-50 raffle, winning $341.50. A total of $683 was raised through ticket sales. Half of the proceeds will benefit Mackinac Straits Hospital. A silent auction raised $745 for the Brevort Township Fire Department. Zion Lutheran Church of Allenville, which provided coffee and hot cocoa, raised $45 in donations for the church. |
