Library Announces New Programs Les Cheneaux Community Library in Cedarville will launch four new programs this fall and winter, including the new Teens Only program already underway. Teens Only is for students in grades seven through nine, and gives them access to the library Saturday evenings, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. to play board, card, and computer games, show movies, and check out books. The next Teens Only night will be November 24. Other future dates include December 8, December 22, January 12, January 26, February 9, February 23, and March 8. Winter Reads for adults, young adults, and children will start this winter, and anyone who wants to participate must register at the library by Saturday, November 30. The library staff is excited to launch a Winter Reads program for adults, young adults and children. Participants will have from November to April to read 16 books, including mysteries, bestsellers, nonfiction, and other genres. Readers will receive a prize for completing the program. Each level includes one book that all participants will read and discuss. Adults will read "The Life of Pi" by Yang Martel, young adults will read "The Silenced" by James DeVita, and children will read "Big Chickens." Beginning computer classes will be offered again in January. A "Point and Click" class will be Wednesday, January 9. Word Processing basics will be offered Wednesday, January 16. A Beginning Internet class will be Wednesday, January 23. An introduction to publishing will be offered Wednesday, January 30. Homework Helpers has resumed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., offering students assistance with homework. The program is coordinated by retired Les Cheneaux Community Schools teacher Marcia Altmaier, and staffed by volunteers. Anyone interested in serving as a homework helper volunteer is invited to call the Friends of the Les Cheneaux Community Library Office at 484-2619. Ongoing library programs include Les Cheneaux Caregivers Support Group meetings the second Thursday of each month at 5:30 p.m., genealogy meetings the third Thursday of each month at 5 p.m., and children's story hour and crafts Saturdays at 10 a.m. |
