Audrey Jean Behrens of DeTour Village worked 10 years for the Department of Community Affairs, managing neighborhood service centers, including holding a position as social xervice coordinator for Head Start.
For 17 years, Mrs. Behrens worked for the Quality Dairy Company in management training. After moving to the Upper Peninsula, Mrs. Behrens worked at the Party Store in DeTour and at the DeTour Café.
Mrs. Behrens was 72 when she passed away Sunday, November 11, 2007, at Northern Michigan Regional Hospital in Petoskey.
She was born April 6, 1935, in Lansing to Myron Clifton and Agnes Della (nee Holey) Marrison.
She grew up in Lansing and lived there until 1992, when she moved to the Upper Peninsula.
She married Ronald Behrens October 6, 1984, in Lansing.
Mrs. Behrens was active in the Presbyterian Church, and she served as past president and current chaplain of the Upper Peninsula District of the AMVETS Auxiliary. Mrs. Behrens was also a member of the Mid- Michigan Chapter 82nd of the Airborn Auxiliary. She also volunteered at the DeTour Historical Museum.
Mrs. Behrens enjoyed playing bingo and spending time with her friends and fellow members of the Red Hat Society.
She is survived by her husband, Ronald; her four children and their families, Steven LaVerne Ostrander and Mary of Lansing, Eddy Charles and Paula Ostrander of DeWitt, Myra Lynne Ostrander and Patty Sheffler of Collingswood, New Jersey, and David James and Barbara Lakes of Charlotte; her three stepchildren, Janet and James Houska of Elsie, Douglas Behrens of Owosso, and Timothy Behrens of Prudenville; six grandchildren, Michael Ostrander, Rachel and Chris Hamilton, Renee Ostrander, Heather Lakes, Cody Lakes, and Kyle Lakes; three step-grandchildren, Jacquelyn, Ashleigh, and Chanae Houska; a great-granddaughter, Kyleigh Ostrander; one brother and his family, LaVerne and Cathy Marrison of Lansing; one sister and her family, Joyce and David Schellhammer of Holt; three half-sisters and their families, Arlene Ann Collings of Ashville, North Carolina, Debra and Pete Orr of Englewood, Florida, and Denise and John Wilmes of Warrenton, Missouri; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; a stepmother and her family, Arlene and John Beauregard, and an aunt, Lou Price.
Mrs. Behrens was preceded in death by two sons, Kevin Lee Ostrander and Roy Glenn Ostrander; a daughter, Ann- Marie Smithey; a stepson, Ronald A. Behrens, and a brother, Richard Marrison.
Services will be Wednesday, November 14, at DeTour Union Presbyterian Church in DeTour Village, and the Reverend Judith Arnold will officiate.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. The Raber AMVETS Ladies Auxiliary will honor Mrs. Behrens at 1:30 p.m.
Services will follow at 2 p.m.
Memorial donations may be made to the DeTour Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund.
