Katherine Frantz

Katherine M. Frantz, 86, of St. Ignace and Petoskey, was once the owner of the Don Frantz Motel in St. Ignace for many years. Mrs. Frantz died Tuesday, November 6, 2007, at Bay Bluffs Medical Care in Harbor Springs, where she had lived for a more than a year.

She was born January 17, 1921, in Manistique to Albert A. and C. Adeline (nee Brown) Davenport.

She married Donald Frantz October 25, 1949, in Chicago. They owned the Don Frantz Motel for many years in St. Ignace. She was a member of St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church. She also was a member of St. Ann's Altar Society, a lifetime member of the DAV Post in Menominee, and Women of the Moose.

She is the last of nine children born to the Davenport family.

She is survived by her daughter, Susanne Holguin of Petoskey; a daughter-in-law, Carla Frantz of St. Ignace; a niece and nephew, Nancy Morse and William Belonga; two cousins, Gloria Davenport and Helen Davenport, and six grandchildren, Katlin, Philip J., Cathy, Angela, Jessica, and Michael.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her son, Donald Jr., and eight siblings, Clifford, William, Orville, Meldrum, Josephine, Mary, Marguerite, and Albert Jr.

A Funeral Mass will be Friday, November 23, at 10 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in St. Ignace with visitation one hour prior to service. Father Allen Mott will officiate. Burial will be in Gros Cap Cemetery.

Memorials may be directed to the renovation of St. Ignatius Loyola Church, or Bay Bluffs.
