DeTour Area Here we are at Thanksgiving. From here, there will be hustle and bustle preparing for the Christmas season. This is a great time in the Upper Peninsula for the shoppers in the family to attend all of the arts and crafts shows in the area. One does not have to go far to buy gifts for that special person. A benefit spaghetti dinner for Anthony Bosley will be Saturday, November 24, at Raber Hall from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. The price is $6 for an adult and $3 for children. Children 10 years and younger are admitted free. There will be door prizes, also. Donations are accepted, and everyone is welcome. On the agenda for DeTour Village is the fourth annual "A Village Christmas" slated for Saturday, December 1. The theme, a 19th century fishing village, has become a permanent part of the event. The time to be in the village is from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Maps for all participating locations will be available at all businesses. A special treat for children will be "Breakfast with Santa" at the Dockside Cafe starting at 9 a.m. The museum will be open for children to learn more of the DeTour history. The E.U.P. Fine Arts Cultural Center will have many crafters available. The DeTour Community Choir will present two concerts: the first Thursday, December 13, at the Drummond Island Lutheran Church at 7:15 p.m., and the second at Sacred Heart Catholic Church Sunday, December 16, at 2 p.m. The director, Jean Bloom, and the choir put a lot of effort in rehearsing for the performances, which are always well attended. Donations are accepted toward scholarships for DeTour students in the music and art program. Also on the agenda is the Christmas play, "The Best Christmas Pageant Ever," directed by David Rhinard. Performance dates are Friday, December 14, at 7 p.m., Saturday, December 15, at 7 p.m., and Sunday, December 16, at 5:30 p.m. The holiday music program at Drummond Island School will be Wednesday, December 5, at 6:30 p.m. The DeTour School holiday music program will be Tuesday, December 11, at 6:30 p.m. at the DeTour High School Performing Arts Center. A thought: It isn't what you have in your pocket that makes you thankful, but what you have in your heart. Happy Thanksgiving! Volunteers can donate blood at DeTour Village Hall Tuesday, November 27, from 11 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. Call DeTour Area Schools to make an appointment at (906) 297-2011, extension 157. |
