Brevort Everyone in the village is busy preparing for the big Thanksgiving feast Thursday, November 22. It's keeping most of us inside thinking of company, food, and where will we put everyone. It all works out. The volunteers at the Hope Chest in St. Ignace need not come in this week, mainly because of the holiday, but also because our leader, Connie Litzner, is laying low with pneumonia. Get well wishes to Connie. The volunteer training session that was scheduled for Tuesday, November 27, is cancelled until further notice. Dave and I called on Bob Flora Sunday afternoon. Tom Krause has been putting the finishing touches on the greenhouse on the south wall of the lower level. We then proceeded west on Wildwood Lane and visited with new neighbors, Dave and Charlotte De- Shetler, who put up a new home this summer. They will be leaving soon, in their 40-foot RV, heading to their home in Inglis, Florida. They're looking forward to returning in May, to enjoy their home on Wildwood. Jenna Jewell has returned to her home in Gladwin after a week of quality time with her grandmother, Dot Glashaw. Uncle Al Dyer gave Jenna a tour of the fire house in Epoufette. Jenna was impressed with the pictures on the side of the firetrucks. Karl and Lynn Yoder and their children, Lauren and Carson, of St. Ignace, Tom and Joyce Gustafson, and Joyce's nephew, Pat Rickelman, and his friend, Tim, from North Carolina, were all guests for dinner at the home of Mike, Lara, Kristi, and Morgan Gustafson Sunday afternoon. John Kennedy has returned home from hunting camp in Cheboygan, with no venison. One more week, and the pastie shop will be closing for the winter. Paul, Tammy, and Ethan Shepard of Fresno, California, are in town for two weeks, staying at the home of Jack and Thora Shepard. Larry First bagged a nice buck at the family hunting camp in Brimley. His brother was also a lucky hunter last weekend. It's a big job for a 71-year-old man and a 78-year-old man to haul deer out of the woods. Brenda Spencer and Joanie Spencer were callers in St. Ignace Saturday. On their way home from dinner in Engadine last week, Jim and Ann Dyer spotted a big flock of wild turkeys on US-2, east of Naubinway. Joe Chalmers, Ray Baron, Dave, and I attended a meeting at Zion Lutheran Church on water quality in our area and the state of Michigan. Twenty-two people participated in asking questions about what can we do to improve the quality of our streams, inland lakes, and the Great Lakes. Information was passed out, outlining objectives and description of the Carp River watershed in Chippewa and Mackinac counties. The next meeting will be Tuesday, November 27, at 7 p.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church. All interested parties may attend. Water is a growing concern - not only quality, but quantity. Dave and I spent last week in Howell with Eric, Kelli, Amanda, and Zach Movalson. Dave and Eric joined Charlie Movalson and Andy Movalson at Charlie's farm, north of Howell, where the deer are plentiful and well fed from the crops in the field. Dave got a nice four-pointer at 7:30 a.m. opening day. Chrissy Movalson fixed lunch for the hunters, serving her tasty venison stew and homemade pie. Happy birthday to Jake Weiss November 22 and Bob Flora November 23. Happy anniversary to Anne and Sharkey Movalson November 24. Have a great Thanksgiving! |
