Florence Maser

Florence Maser
Florence A. Maser of Mesick was a former telephone operator and co-owned Maser Realty with her husband, Walter, in Maple Heights, Ohio. They owned property and lived in Cedarville from 1968 to 1971.

Mrs. Maser was 89 when she passed away peacefully Saturday, November 24, 2007, at Cherry Hill Haven in Traverse City.

She was born February 7, 1918, in Cleveland, Ohio, the only child of George H. Kershaw and Gladys (nee Stone) Kershaw.

She and Walter, her high school sweetheart, were married June 3, 1939, and he died September 11, 1998.

Mrs. Maser began dancing when she was five and was proficient in ballet, tap, and toe dancing. She consistently bowled over 200 and was a member of Northland Bowling League, where she held a high series of 544.

She also loved baseball, golfing, swimming, fly-fishing, cooking, gardening, and playing bingo. The Masers were active snowmobile club members and loved yeararound fishing.

Mrs. Maser was a life-time member of the Rebekkah Lodge.

Following her graduation from Maple Heights High School in Ohio, she worked at the Bailey Company furniture store in Cleveland.

During World War II, she worked at Jack and Heintz as a telephone operator, while her husband was overseas.

After the war, the Masers owned Maser Realty in Maple Heights, and Mr. Maser served as mayor there from 1952 to 1962. They then moved to Mesick and operated a grocery store for seven years, when Mrs. Maser retired.

Survivors include three children and their families, Barbara and Nick Torsky, Darlene Evans and Don Fox, and Daniel and Cathy Maser, six grandchildren, Cheryl Torsky Wyatt, Michelle Torsky Gaudreau, Brad Bazzett, Dean Evans, Laura Maser, and Craig Maser, and six great-grandchildren, Erin Fonville, Nicholas Wyatt, Aliyeh Wyatt, Emilee Wyatt, Olivia Gaudreau, and Gregory Gaudreau.

She was preceded in death by a grandson, Richard Forrester.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 28, at the Peterson Funeral Home in Cadillac. Burial will follow in nearby Yuma Cemetery.
