Violet Cruickshank

Violet Cruickshank
Violet U. Cruickshank, 91, of Pickford, died Thursday, November 29, 2007, at Tendercare in Sault Ste. Marie.

She was born in Pickford August 17, 1916, to Herbert and Diana "Nina" (nee Patton) Bawks.

She was a resident of Pickford her entire life. After her mother's death, she quit school at the age of 12 to care for her young brothers. She was a nurturer by nature; taking care of her family and raising her children brought her great joy, friends said. Mrs. Cruickshank enjoyed cooking, baking, canning, and needlepoint. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, and particularly enjoyed the outings she took with her sister, Effie Leach.

Mrs. Cruickshank was a member of the Stalwart Presbyterian Church and a life member of the Hessel VFW Ladies Auxiliary.

She is survived by her daughters and their families, Theora Bosley of Stalwart, Wanda and Vern Sawyers of Sault Ste. Marie, Diane and John Kane of Kincheloe, and Debbie Kelly of Pickford, and a son and his family, Donald and Kathryn Cruickshank of Sault Ste. Marie. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren and their families, Francie and Jim Waybrant, Harrison Bosley, Penny and Eric Wallis, Robert S. and Yvonne Bosley, Cheryl and Dan Nettleton, Jeff and Tracy Sawyers, Steven and Danielle Sawyers, Doug Sawyers, William and Candy Seward, Samuel Cruickshank, Misty Shaw, Dawn Marie and Dave Dolezel, and Joe and Linnea Kelly; 24 great-grandchildren and their families, Christopher, Tyler, Kristy and Brendan, Emily, Kelly, Danielle and Mark, Michelle, Ian, Jon, Ryan, Jared, Samantha, Kimberly, Trevor, Taylor, Anthony, Jesse, Richie, Nevaeh, Jacob, Kimberly, Aurora, Alexis, and Zachary, and three greatgreat grandchildren, Connor, Keera, and Braylon.

Mrs. Cruickshank was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel; her parents; five brothers, Clifford Bawks, Ray Bawks, Vern Bawks, Robert Bawks, and Dean Bawks; one sister, Effie Leach; and three sons-in-law, David Seward, Robert Bosley, and Joe Kelly.

Visitation was Sunday, December 2, from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Reamer Galer Funeral Home in Pickford. A funeral took place Monday, December 3, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with the Reverend Dennis Boogerd officiating.
