Thyra I. Hill of Cedarville was a member of the First Union Church in Cedarville, and was extensively involved in the church Ladies Aid. Mrs. Hill died at age 95 Saturday, December 1, 2007, at Mackinac Straits Hospital in St. Ignace.
She was born in Cedarville May 7, 1912, to Otto Edward and Anna Karolina (nee Lindeberg) Winberg.
She enjoyed needlecrafts, such as sewing, knitting, and crocheting, and she also loved making her famous Swedish brown bread, friends said.
Mrs. Hill is survived by three sons and their families, Herman and Verna Hill of Midland, Ronald and Mary Hill of Cedarville, and Gerald and Venitta Hill of Cedarville; one daughter and her family, Sylvia and Gary Peterson of Harrisonburg, Virginia; a daughter-in-law, Marian Hill of Cedarville; 18 grandchildren, Darrell Hill, Darwin Hill, Rodney Hill, Carmen Ashley, Kevin Hill, Marlene Hill, Marilyn Shankus, MaryEllen Walls, Kathy Hartnagel, Michael Hill, Julie Watkins, Kara McKenzie, Mark Hill, Gregory Hill, Gretchen Schafer, Kurtis Hill, Joseph Peterson, and Andrew Peterson; 43 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren, and a brother, Bert Winberg of Glendale, Arizona.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas H. Hill; a son, Edward Hill; a great-granddaughter, Christine Hill; six brothers, Ray Winberg, Walter Winberg, Edwin Winberg, Elmer Winberg, Hugo Winberg, Hjalmar Winberg, and two sisters, Ingrid Winberg and Margaret Huyck.
Services will be Thursday, December 6, at 1 p.m. at Reamer Galer Funeral Home in Pickford. The Reverend Jeffrey Meyers will officiate. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
