Les Cheneaux
By Helen Shoberg 484-2626 mink1@cedarville.net

Beth Rye and her daughter, Rachael, attended the Saturday, December 1, Advent Tea at First Union Church in Cedarville.
Christmas carols, Christmas parties, and neighborhood get-togathers seem to be happening throughout the community, and that is what the season is all about. Everyone is in a happy and jolly mood, and there seems to be a holiday excitement in the air.

Snow, with a lot of bright sunshine, is the order of the day in the Les Cheneaux Islands. There has been just a small, fresh covering of snow each day.

An Advent Tea was given by the men of First Union Church for the women of the church recently. A hostess assigned to each table of eight was responsible for table decorations. Along with an attractive centerpiece, each table was also set with lovely, china tea sets. The men were kept busy pouring about 140 cups of tea and 56 cups of hot chocolate during the afternoon. Lots of happy conversation, Christmas carols, and a story helped everyone reflect on what Christmas is really all about.

We hope many heard the choir at First Union Church under the direction of Alan Jacobus last Sunday. After many weeks of concentrated practice, approximately 30 voices took part in the Christmas cantata during the church service.

Tom and Mary Flood won the December 11 Lions Club lottery of $100.

Congratulations to Tony Autore on his 80th birthday. An open house last Sunday at Our Lady of the Snows church in honor of this special birthday was very well attended, with guests coming from Sault Ste. Marie, Pickford, and other surrounding communities. Refreshments were plentiful and no one went away hungry.

I wish a very merry Christmas and a happy and blessed New Year to all.
