Brevort
By Lois Movalson 292-5581

What a spirit-lifting Monday morning, with the sky as blue as it could be, and no wind. The snow sparkles like diamonds.

There is a new sign in front of the home by the First Edition Bookstore, stating there is a notary public on the premises. Holly Engen is at your service.

Joe and Sharon Chalmers drove to Appleton, Wisconsin, last week, and on their way home, Joe got a bit drowsy and ended up off the road, enough to require assistance getting back on the highway. No one was hurt, including the car.

Theresa Jewel and her daughters, Jenna and Rachael, of Gladwin celebrated an early Christmas with grandmother, Dot Glashaw, last week. They did some sledding on the big hills around Dot's home on Epoufette Bay.

Mark Jorgensen of Shepard paid a visit to his grandparents, Owen and Barbara Jorgensen, Sunday evening and Monday morning.

Megan Gustafson is home on Christmas break, staying with her parents, Dick and Patsy Gustafson. Megan attends Michigan State University in East Lansing.

Dan Becker is visiting with his parents, John and Pega Kennedy, of Wildwood Lane until after Christmas, when he leaves to be stationed in California. Chrissie Becker and the family will be home in Cheboygan and Brevort for Christmas, then she will go back to Virginia Beach to prepare to sell their home there, and then join Dan in California.

Dave Movalson Jr. joined Jake and Mary Weiss on a trip to Alma to watch their son, Jake Weiss, play with the Alma College varsity basketball team. Alma played Oberlin College of Ohio, and kept pace for the first three quarters, only to lose by a small margin in the fourth quarter.

Dave and I called on Jake and Mary Weiss of Gorman Road Sunday afternoon. Jake and Rebecca were both home from Alma College for Christmas break. We dropped by Rick and Gloria Weber's home on Brevoort Lake for a short visit on the way home.

Jamica Diamond has returned home from a journey to Georgia and South Carolina.

She had made arrangements to pick up a car to restore over the next few months.

The weather was a balmy 70 degrees and roads were good until Ohio, then rain and sloppy weather in Michigan, but she arrived home safe and sound.

Congratulations to Larry First's hunting partner, Mary Ann First. Mary Ann shot her first deer with the muzzleloader on the first day of muzzleloading season.

The Firsts were hunting at the family hunting camp near Brimley. I asked Larry if it was a big deer and he replied, "It got bigger the further I dragged it." Way to go, Mary Ann.

Sunday evening dinner guests at the home of Jack and Thora Shepard were Mike, Helena, Tucker, Tessa, and Tabitha Shepard, all of Gros Cap Road, Melissa Foster and Patty Truman of Athens, Ohio, and Lee Foster, who will soon be leaving for Minnesota and the Gun Flint Lodge, near the Boundary Waters.

Lee is employed as a chef at the lodge. The family celebrated an early Christmas.

The progressive dinner was enjoyed by all who attended. The first course of appetizers and salads was prepared by Joe and Sharon Chalmers and Dave and Lois Movalson, hosted at the Chalmers home.

We then gathered at Trinity Fellowship Hall for the main course, under the direction of Pega and John Kennedy, with able assistance from Jim and Ann Dyer, Tom and Joyce Gusfafson, and others. Jeff and Pat Cranson hosted the dessert course at their home on Wildwood Lane, with tasty dishes from Vern and Ruth Johnson, Dot Glashaw, and Mike and Lara Gustafson, after which the group played that old game of "telephone" (you can imagine, after whispering a message in more than 20 different ears, what came out at the end). It was a good time.

Our sincere sympathies go out to Jim and Jerri Rose as Jim's father, Jim Rose Sr., passed away Saturday, December 15, in Saginaw.

Happy birthday to Shawn Spencer Miller December 15, and to Richard Mark Miller December 10, Jamie Rogers December 24, Mary Ann First December 28, and Michael Shepard December 31.

Happy anniversary to Michael and Helena Shepard December 21, and Jack and Thora Shepard December 24.

Our grandchildren, Miss Amanda and her brother, Zach, of Howell, didn't have school Monday, December 17, owing to a storm that passed through December 16, so it was Christmas cookie baking day at the Movalson household.

Happy holidays! Keep safe, and blessings for all.
