4-1 With Wins Over
Panthers, Hurons
The St. Ignace Saints girls basketball team improved to 4-1 overall on the season and 2-0 in the Straits Area Conference (SAC) with a 66-49 non-conference win over the Pickford Panthers Wednesday, December 12, and a 57-28 SAC decision against the Rogers City Hurons Friday, December 14.
Saints Upend Panthers
The Saints scored the first eight points and never trailed during the non-league win over the Panthers.
Nine players saw court time and eight scored for Saints Head Coach Dorene Ingalls. The Saints played their first home game at LaSalle High School after opening the season with four road games.
"It was nice to play at home after four tough games on the road," said Coach Ingalls. "Pickford came ready to play and I was pleased with our team effort."
The Saints led 20-11 after the first eight minutes and held a 13- 11 scoring edge in the second quarter for a 33-22-halftime advantage, as Amanda Coveyou scored 12 points for St. Ignace and Jasmine Ledy matched the effort for the Panthers.

St. Ignace put the game out of reach with a 10-0 run to begin the second half for a 43-22 lead at the 6:10 mark of the third quarter.
Courtney Bruni scored the Panthers' final six points of the third quarter to slice the Saints' lead to 53-38 going into the final period, before St. Ignace completed the game with a 13-11 scoring edge in the fourth quarter.

St. Ignace started out sluggishly against Rogers City before Jodi Langstaff drained a three-point field goal at the buzzer to end the first eight minutes, and continued onto an 11-0 run to begin the second quarter, lifting the Saints to a 22-6 lead with 5:43 remaining in the first half.
Sophomore Chelsea Swope, with career-high 19 points, led the nine-player offense for Head Coach Dorene Ingalls. The Saints led 28-16 at halftime and outscored the Hurons 29-12 in the second half to improve their record to 5-1 overall and 2-0 in the SAC.
St. Ignace closed out the third quarter with an 11-0 offensive surge, and held a 6-0 advantage in a low-scoring fourth quarter.
"We started out slow, but finally our offense took off," said Coach Ingalls. "We got into foul trouble in the first half and Chelsea Swope picked up the offensive intensity."

Saints JV Players Post Win
St. Ignace junior varsity defeated Pickford 59-33 and Rogers City 52-24 to improve their record to 4-2 on the season.

Pair of Wins
The Cedarville Trojans girls basketball team improved to 5-1 overall on the season and 2-0 in the Eastern Upper Peninsula Conference (EUPC) after defeating the Engadine Eagles 86-67 Friday, December 14, and beating the Rogers City Hurons 59-29 in a non-confer- ence game Wednesday, December 12.

Cedarville led 45-31 at halftime and outscored Engadine 41- 36 in the second half.

Cedarville raced out to a 34-12 halftime lead and outscored Rogers City 25- 17 in the second half.
Cedarville will travel to Brimley to battle the Bays in a match-up of two undefeated teams in the EUPC Friday, December 21.

Brimley Bays 7-0 Overall
The Brimley Bays girls basketball team continues its undefeated streak of seven consecutive wins on the season against two non-conference opponents, Newberry and Rudyard, both Straits Area Conference teams.
The Bays beat the Newberry Indians 54-47 Saturday, December 15, and earned a 61-50 victory over the Rudyard Bulldogs Monday, December 10.
Brimley and Cedarville will battle for first place in the Eastern Upper Peninsula Conference on the Bays home court Friday, December 21.
Three girls scored in double figures in the Bays' win over the Indians, as Jenna Somes gave Brimley an offensive lift. She recorded 12 points in the fourth quarter after Amber Aikens, the Bays' leading scorer with 17 points, fouled out.
At Rudyard, the Bays held a 15-14 scoring edge after the first eight minutes and led 32-27 at halftime before outscoring the Bulldogs 29-23 in the second half to record the win.
