Mackinac Island Girls Win First Game, Laker Boys Remain Undefeated
Lady Lakers Win First Game Since Fall of 1990

The Mackinac Island Lakers girls basketball team enjoyed victory in a 30-17 Northern Lights League decision over Ojibwe Charter School Eagles Tuesday, December 18.
The last time the Lakers played on the hardwood was in 1990, and with this year's move of the girls basketball season to the winter, the Mackinac Island school has reinstated its girls basketball program.
"The girls have worked hard for this day," said Lakers Coach Mary Patay. "We have been close in previous games, and today all of the hard work has paid off with the win."
Mackinac Island led 6-2 after the first eight minutes and outscored the Eagles 10-2 in the second quarter for a 16-4 halftime advantage.
The Lakers continued with a 10-5 margin in the third quarter to increase their lead to 26-9 before the Eagles held a 6-4 scoring edge in the final period.

Lakers Drop Pair to Rockets
The Lakers fell to the Paradise Rockets 53-25 Friday, December 14, and 31-23 Saturday, December 15, during a weekend series.

Mackinac Island Boys Remain
Perfect After Four Victories
Mackinac Island Lakers boys team remains undefeated with an 8-0 record after posting victories over Ojibwe Charter School Eagles 61-24 in a Northern Lights League (NLL) contest Tuesday, December 18, sweeping the Paradise Rockets 83-63 Friday, December 14, and 91-65 Saturday, December 15, and upending the Maplewood Baptist Academy Black Bears 54-25 Monday, December 10.
Lakers Clip Eagles
Robert Chambers scored 10 of the Lakers' first 14 points in the win over the Eagles. Mackinac Island led 38-13 at halftime before outscoring Ojibwe Charter School 23-11 in the second half.

Lakers Sweep Rockets
In the opener at Paradise, the Lakers led 41-24 at halftime and held a 42-39 scoring edge in the second half.
Lakers statistics Friday: Woody Beardsley, 26 points, 12 rebounds, four blocked shots; Michael Gamble, 22 points, six assists; Tyler McLean, 20 points; Robert Chambers, eight points, 11 rebounds; seven points, 16 rebounds.
Five players scored in double figures to lead the Lakers in the win Saturday. Mackinac Island led 51-26 at halftime and outscored Paradise 40-39 in the second half to post the win.
Lakers Tame Black Bears
The two small schools battled on Mackinac Island, with the host Lakers defeating the Maplewood Baptist Academy Black Bears.
Mackinac Island breezed to a 9- 0 lead during the first minute of play and increased the margin to 25-6 after the first eight minutes as Robert Chambers scored eight points for the Lakers.
The Lakers built the margin to 47-12 at halftime before the Black Bears outscored Mackinac Island 13-7 in the second half.
