Eagles Improve to 4-3 After

Non-League Wins

The Engadine Eagles girls varsity basketball team improved to 4-3 on the season after non-conference victories over Big Bay de Noc 69-32 Tuesday, December 18, and Rapid River 65-37 Monday, December 17.

Lauren Mac- Arthur and Shauni Rutledge combined for 53 points to lead the Eagles offense at Big Bay de Noc.

Against, Rapid River, the Eagles started slowly, but Engadine picked up their offense against the Rockets to notch the win.

Engadine statistics vs. Big Bay: Lauren MacArthur, 27 points, nine rebounds, five assists; Shauni Rutledge, 26 points, 17 rebounds; Shannon Browning, six points; Tristina Browning, four points, five steals; Brenda Albrecht, three points; Kacie Rutledge, two points; Elisa Hobbs, one point.

Panthers Fall to Blue Devils

Pickford Panthers girls basketball team played hard, but in the end, foul trouble played a key role as the Sault Ste. Marie Blue Devils handed the Panthers a 61-45 nonconference defeat Tuesday, December 18.

"The score doesn't indicate how close this game was," said Panthers Coach Becky Arbic. "The girls played hard for four quarters, but fouls did hurt us."

The Panthers led 15-9 after the first eight minutes before the Blue Devils took a 29-27 halftime lead with a 20-12 advantage in the second quarter and outscored Pickford 32-18 in the second half, which included 22-11 in the fourth quarter.

Pickford statistics: Courtney Bruni, 10 points; Melissa Kucharczyk, Jenna Ledy, eight points; Jasmine Ledy, Alli Priskorn, seven points; Megan Arbic, three points; Rachel Schmitigal, two points.

The Panthers, 4-3 on the season, have time off until a road game at Engadine Friday, January 4.

Panthers Bounce Back With

EUPC Win Over Raiders

The Pickford Panthers girls basketball team bounced back from a non-conference setback at the hands of St. Ignace Wednesday, December 12, to defeat the DeTour Raiders 60-35 during an Eastern Upper Peninsula Conference contest Friday, December 14.

"We rebounded better and cut down on our turnovers than against St. Ignace," said Panthers Head Coach Becky Arbic.

The Panthers, 4-2 overall on the season and 1-1 in the EUPC, raced out to a 12-2 lead after the first eight minutes and increased their scoring advantage to 25-11 at halftime, outscoring the Raiders 35-24 in the second half to post a conference win.

Raiders Drop

Non-league Games The DeTour Raiders girls basketball team dropped two nonc onference games last week, to the Big Bay de Noc Black Bears 46- 29 Saturday, December 15, and to the Harbor Light Christian (HLC) Swordsmen 50- 32 Monday, December 10.

The Raiders trailed 10-4 to the Black Bears after the first eight minutes and 25-13 at halftime before Big Bay de Noc outscored Raiders 21-16 in the second half.

The Raiders will host Engadine during a EUPC contest Thursday, December 20, before the holiday break.

Bulldogs Improve To 2-1 in SAC With Win Over Indians

The Rudyard Bulldogs girls varsity basketball team improved to 2-1 in the Straits Area Conference (SAC) with a 42-38 road win over Newberry Friday, December 14.

Rudyard led 14-5 after the first eight minutes and held a 24- 19 halftime advantage before Newberry outscored the Bulldogs 19-18 in the second half.

Rudyard will travel to Cheboygan to face the Chiefs in an SAC match-up Thursday, December 20.

Bulldogs statistics: Emily Jeffreys, 23 points, 12 rebounds; Erin Jarvie, 12 points, six assists; Shakeivas Fikes, three points; Betsy Wileman, Lindsie LaPointe, two points; Destiny Chontos, nine rebounds.

Mackinaw City Girls

Post First Win The Mackinaw City Comets girls basketball team captured its first win of the season with a 29- 27 Northern Lakes Conference (NLC) decision over the Wolverine Wildcats Friday, December 7, then hit a losing streak, dropping NLC contests to the Harbor Light Christian (HLC) Swordsmen 50-15 Wednesday, December 12, and to the Ellsworth Lancers Friday, December 14.

The Comets led 14-11 at halftime against Wolverine, hanging on for the two-point win on the road.

Comets JV Update

The Mackinaw City junior varsity team lost to Vanderbilt 57-17. Tierney Bell scored nine points for the Comets.

Mackinaw City also fell to Harbor Light Christian 39-22. Elizabeth Rivera scored 14 and Sarah Rogala recorded eight rebounds. The Comets were unable to break its losing streak to Ellsworth, losing 58-15. Hailee Paquet and Sarah Rogala scored four for the Comets.
