Christmas in Brevort started with a Christmas Eve candlelight service at Trinity Lutheran Church, with Pastor Tari Stage-Harvey sharing the Christmas story. It's always nice to have Hannah, Sophie, and Elijah Harvey and Emma and Josh Feleppa at our service, celebrating the birth of a child so long ago.

Warren Cunningham, Mary Carney, and Holly Engen traveled to Cedarville to be with Warren's siblings Christmas Eve. Christmas Day was spent quietly at home in Brevort. Mary is contemplating cross-country skiing when we get enough snow.

Gio Giordano had to work at the toll booth at the Mackinac Bridge Christmas Day, so it was just Betty and Gio later on actually celebrating Betty's birthday December 25. Double presents, Gio. Happy birthday, Betty.

Dot Glashaw spent Christmas with friends living nearby, as did Pastor Tari, Kurt, and family.

Mark Jorgensen spent Christmas with his grandparents, Owen and Barbara Jorgensen. The rest of the Jorgensens traveled to New York City, taking in the sights and some plays, then on to Chicago for more of the same. After a stop at relatives in Scandinavia, Wisconsin, they will be at Owen and Barb's for New Year's Day.

Tracy Movalson and Chippy are home from Wisconsin for the holidays. Christmas morning found us on the road to Eric, Kelli, Amanda, and Zach's home in Howell for a brief Christmas celebration. Dave Jr. opted to stay home with Chippy.

Russ and Susie Nesberg traveled to St. Ignace Christmas morning to spend the day with Sandy Sharp, Mike Kelly, and family, Jona and her friend, Zach, and Michaela.

Sean and Janice O'Boyle, having visited relatives earlier, spent a quiet Christmas at home with Kyle, Katelyn, and Lawrence.

Jeannie and Brian Rose take every opportunity to visit their new grandson, Kadan Ksar, and Christmas was no exception. Kadan is the son of Kari and Jamal Ksar of Troy. Christmas Day was spent with Jamal's family with a traditional Jordanian Christmas dinner with lamb, rice, and a yogurt sauce, after which they played the new Monopoly game.

Jim Rose is doing well after a few days at Northern Michigan Hospital in Petoskey.

Jack and Thora Shepard entertained Jim Smith and Barbara Merchant of Indian River, and Mike and Helena Shepard with their children, Tucker, Tessa, and Tabitha, on Christmas Day.

Mark and Joan Spencer's home was filled to capacity with family over Christmas, Bob and Candy Humphrey with their children, Jennie, Jessie, and Matt of Traverse City, Tammy Spencer of St. Ignace, Mark and Brenda Spencer of Brevort, and Shawn and Scott Miller and their son, Richard, from Ohio.

Pega and John Kennedy were kept busy between Cheboygan and Brevort, being with extended families. Dan and Chrissy Becker with their children, Jacob, Allen, and Danielle, split their time with Chrissy's parents in Cheboygan and Dan's parents in Brevort, then there was time spent with John Kennedy's family, also of Cheboygan. It was a busy time, but fortunately, not a long drive between homes.

Tom and Joyce Gustafson were in Traverse City Monday.

Lara and Mike Gustafson, along with Kristi and Morgan, hosted Christmas Eve dinner for the Lasley family, the LaLondes, and the Yoders, all of St. Ignace.

Jim and Jackie Rogers, along with Levi and Jessie, had a grand play day Christmas Day. Jamie Rogers was home last week and was honored at a baby shower. Jamie, the Christmas birthday girl, is expecting her baby Easter Sunday. What a coincidence.

Jim Rogers thought he was getting an anticipated table saw for Christmas, but when the wrapping came off, it was a foosball game.

Four can play foosball, while only one can operate a table saw, so it was fine with Jim.

Tuesday, December 18, Dave and I, Dot Glashaw, and Joyce Gustafson from the western reaches of the county attended the luncheon for Hope Chest volunteers at the United Methodist Church in St. Ignace.

The luncheon was sponsored by United Way.

Thursday evening saw an early Christmas get-together with our family, Jake and Mary Weiss, along with Rebecca and Jake, Gloria and Rick Weber, and Dave Movalson Jr.

The evening was spent watching basketball on television.

Enjoy the coming year, and stay safe.
