January has arrived and the days will be lighter longer.

Jack and Marion Fenlon will be traveling to Florida for a few days. The special occasion is to celebrate her only sister's 90th birthday Saturday, January 5. Dorothy (nee Smith) Berson, her sister, Marion, and 10 brothers grew up on Cheeseman Hill. Their parents were Anna and Cecil Smith.

Denise Smith, Henry Smith, and their mother, Mary Edwards, traveled to Grand Rapids for Christmas to be with Mike Smith and his family.

Larry McQuiston will be leaving for Iraq Saturday, January 5. Sgt. McQuiston is with the National Guard and this will be his third time deployed to Iraq. Let's keep him and all of our other military men and women in our prayers.

Dustin and Dawn Wilcox are enjoying a Christmas vacation in Miami and Bonita Springs, Florida.

A BroomBowl Tournament will be going on Saturday, January 5, at 10 a.m. at Little Bear East Arena. Local players will raise funds for city recreation department equipment.

The same day, St. Ignace Public Library will host a book sale from 10 a.m. to noon.

Birthdays are Holly Romano January 1, Denise Smith January 5, Bev Fraser January 7, Bethel (nee Sunderland) Logan January 8, and Dora Hiser January 16.
