The strap on Mackinac Island kindergarten student Hannah Styburski's left skate came loose shortly after students came on the ice at Little Bear East Arena in St. Ignace Thursday, December 20. Skating by, junior Fuller Cowell helped the youngster make the needed repair. For a change of pace this year, Mackinac Island students replaced their annual spring field trip with a winter ice skating party. About 50 students in grades kindergarten through 12 boarded the 8:15 a.m. Huron ferry to St. Ignace. Lacing up ice skates, they took to the ice for several hours and had a pizza party before heading back to school on the Island.
