(Photograph courtesy of Tom and Karen Moore) The weather has certainly changed during the past week, with plenty of snow falling. Before that, days seemed more like spring than winter, with the thermometer reaching almost 50 degrees. Now ice has formed on the roads, making driving hazardous in places. One cannot be too careful in this kind of weather.

The return of snow last Friday was welcome for those who enjoy winter sports. The snowmobile trails were groomed again and people are enjoying the winter activities in the area.

Last week, we learned from Bruce Patrick about the "live-in" shanties and shacks along the shore of Marquette Island when the ice fishermen of along ago all fished for lake trout near Goose Island in Lake Huron.

I'm sure none of them were very fancy. Now Musky Bay is dotted with many state-of-the-art fish shanties, with fishermen hoping for a nice catch of perch. Several of the shanties out there today are so unusual and wellequipped (one with leaded glass windows!) they could be used for guest quarters.

Many today have efficient heaters, radios, and even televisions - all the comforts of home. How times have changed!

On February 24, an open house is being planned for Betty and Bruce Patrick at the Cedarville Inn. Three special occasions will be celebrated at that time, Betty's 85th birthday and Bruce's 93rd birthday, along with their 60th wedding anniversary.

Sue Millon won the Lions Club $100 raffle January 8.

I'm looking forward to enjoying some warm weather in Englewood, Florida, visiting my brother and sister-in-law, consequently, there may be no Les Cheneaux column for a couple of weeks.
