Build-up of creosote in the wood stove chimney of Donald Paquin's home on 319 South Marley Street in St. Ignace is the likely cause of a fire that caused extensive damage to his home around 3 p.m. Wednesday, January 9. No one was injured.

Firefighters battled the blaze for about an hour, said St. Ignace Fire Chief John "Bucky" Robinson.

Firefighters were also called to an unauthorized brush fire on West Road in Evergreen Shores Tuesday, January 8. It was reported by a person who spotted the fire, which was almost extinguished when firefighters arrived. No damage was caused to the area.
